  • The 5 characteristics of living organisms are organized, reproduce, grow, adjust, and adapt or evolve.

Characteristics of Life

  1. Organized- Cells with the structure that carry out essential functions such as feeding and digestion.

  2. Reproduce- Produce offspring to replace themselves. Not essential for survival but for continuation of spieces.

  3. Grow- Increases the amount of living material and formation of new structures. May be made up of one or multi and grow at different rates and go throughh changes.

  4. Adjust- Any organism that maintains these conditions is in HOMEOSTASIS occurs in all living organisms.

    1. Homeostasis- maintaing a natural internal balance.

  5. Adapt/ Evolve- Inherited from previous generations. As environment chnages organisms become suited to the new conditions. Ones with more suited conditions will survive.

Living organisms all share the same five characteristics that are knwon as organization, reproduction, growth, adjusting, and adapting or evolving. The characteristic organization is the act or process of putting the different parts of something in a certainn order so that they can be found or used easily. These organisms share the characteristic of organization by showing organization with speices that preform particular functions. The characteristic of orgnization is essential for functions of feeding and digestion. The second characteristic is reproduction which is the production of offspring by a sexual or asexual process. These organisms share the characteristic of reproduction as a way in which an organism can reproduce which is essential to continuation of speices group of similar organisms able to interbreed and produce fertile orffspring. The third characteristic is growth which is the process of increasing. Living organisms share this characteristic by growing and increasing the amount of living matter and by forming new structures. The fourth characteristis is adjusting whcich  is the process of altering or moving something slightly in order t achieve the desired fit, appearance, or result. Livingorganisms share this characteristic by adjusing to their environment in response to new structures. The fifth chracteristic adapting or evolving which is making something suitable for a new purpose or use. Living things share this characteristic by the weather climate and each living thing has something apart of them that allows the living organism to be suitable for the altered climate.
